
Michael O’Callaghan
Chief Executive OfficerMichael is a final year Management Science and Information Systems Studies (MSISS) student and is Chief Executive Officer for the 2021/22 session. Michael has previously held the roles of Chief Operating Officer, Head of Alternative Investments and Financial Banks Sector Manager. As Head of Alternative Investments, Michael organised the first Alternative Investments Conference in February 2020 as well as the first Fintech Conference in February 2019. He was part of the team that represented Trinity College at the Rotman International Trading Competition in Toronto in 2019. Last summer Michael interned in the investment banking division of Bank of America Merrill Lynch and he has also completed internships with McKinsey and Melior Equity Partners. Michael’s interests outside of finance include tennis, rugby, golf, reading and travelling.



Ciaran McKay
Chief Investment OfficerCiaran is a penultimate year Management Science and Information Systems Studies (MSISS) student and Chief Investment Officer for the 2021/22 session. Ciaran previously held the role as sector manager of Healthcare. He has been part of the Trinity SMF team in the CFA Equity Research Challenge as well as representing the SMF on the winning team in the 2021 Credit Suisse Market Madness Challenge. Ciaran also took part in the BVP internship programme which gives SMF students an insight into venture capital. Last Summer he worked in Yew Grove REIT as an intern after securing the opportunity from the CFA Equity Research Challenge, he also completed a spring internship at RBC in 2021. His hobbies include hurling and football and is an avid reader of geopolitics.



Ranjana Singh
Chief Financial OfficerRanjana is this year’s Chief Financial Officer and is a final year Management Science and Information Systems Studies student. She’s been heavily involved in the SMF since her first year at TCD and was the Consumer Discretionary Sector Manager in 2019/20, the Head of Women in Business last year and has also competed in the CFA Equity Research Challenge with other SMF members. Over the summer, she completed her internship at Bank of America Merrill Lynch where she also did her Spring Week in second year. In her free time, she loves cooking, sketching and Zumba!



Jack Spain
Chief Operating OfficerJack is a senior sophister B.E.S.S student specialising in Business Studies at Trinity College
Dublin. He is currently Chief Operating Officer for the 2021/21 session. Jack has previously
held the roles of Basic Materials Sector Manager in 2020 and as a junior analyst in the
Financial Non-Banks Sector in 2019. Jack founded the SMF inaugural ‘Careers Conversation’
earlier this year in October of 2021 and will continue to oversee the SMF’s flagship
conferences this year. During his third year Jack interned in Venture Capital with BVP before
continuing on to intern with William Fry, a corporate law firm, the following summer.
Outside of the SMF, Jack has a keen interest in both golf and music.

Aoife Mullan
Public Relations OfficerAoife is a Junior Sophister Global Business student and is the fund’s Public Relations Officer. She has been involved with the SMF since her first year in college and previously held roles as Junior Analyst in the Consumer Staples Sector and Senior Analyst in Transport and Industrials. Aoife has completed a summer internship in KPMG’s Corporate Finance department and McKinsey’s Spring Discover Programme.



Oliver Begley
Chief MacroeconomistOliver is a Junior Sophister Mechanical Engineering student and is currently the chief Macroeconomist for the society. Having spent two years in the Energy sector as both a senior analyst and sector manager, he expanded his knowledge of geopolitics and macroeconomics, leading him into his current role within the fund. Oliver finished second place in the intervarsity Bloomsbury pitching competition in Spring 2021 and won the Temasek impact investing pitching competition out of over 100 entrants across the U.K and Ireland. Oliver’s professional experience began with the society’s sponsor, BVP, an Irish-based venture capital firm where he spent a year working part-time with the company. Furthermore, he completed a spring internship at RBC and spent last summer working at Tier mobility, in London.



Erika Goodwin-Monteagudo
Head of TradingErika is a rising senior sophister Mathematics student who will serve as the Head of Trading for the 2021/22 session. In 2019/20, Erika held the position of Investment Officer for the fund, and in 2018/19 held the position of Sector Manager in the Communications Sector. Erika has also represented Trinity College at the Rotman International Trading Competition in Toronto and the CFA Equity Research Challenge. Erika has completed internships with Goldman Sachs in their Global Markets division, along with J.P. Morgan, Bank of America and Credit Suisse on their spring week programs. Next year, Erika will be joining Goldman Sachs for a full-time role in a Funding Trading & Portfolio Management role. In her free time, Erika has a keen interest in travelling and has travelled to some places such as Brazil, Argentina and South Africa.



Sean McKenna
Chief Technical OfficerSean is a Junior Sophister Management Science and Information Systems Studies student, and is currently the funds Chief Technology Officer. Sean has a keen passion for technology and its role within the world of finance. Sean is also interested in the technology behind blockchain, and how cryptocurrencies are breaking into the financial world, and hopes to introduce this exciting new technology into the fund. Sean has previously interned in software development and in prop trading, an area of which he hopes to pursue. Outside of finance and technology, Sean has a keen interest in weightlifting, swimming, travelling and motorsports.



Will O’Callaghan
Podcast HostWill is a third year Management Science and Information Systems Studies (MSISS) student and Host of the Trinity SMF Podcast. During the 2020/21 session, Will started the podcast on which he interviews world leaders in finance and business such as Howard Marks, Alan Dargan and Alison Mass. In 2020/21, he held the role of Technology (Software) Sector Manager. He was a member of the winning teams in the Temasek Impact Investing Challenge and Credit Suisse Market Madness Stock Pitch Challenge. He was part of the Trinity College team that participated in the CFA Equity Research Challenge and Rotman International Trading Competition. Last summer he interned in the Long/Short Equity division at the hedge fund Marshall Wace and completed Spring Weeks at BlackRock, Citadel and RBC. Will is also interested in rugby, tennis, coffee and travel.



Olwyn Patterson
Head of ESG and Social ResponsibilityOlwyn is a Senior Fresh Management Science and Information Systems Studies student. Olwyn will be the inaugural Head of ESG and Social Responsibility for the 2021/2022 session of the Student Managed Fund. She was previously a Junior Analyst and Senior Analyst in the Industrials and Healthcare Non-Pharma Sectors. In first year she interned in the Credit Department of Dell Financial Services as a Data Analyst. Outside of finance, Olwyn has an interest in theatre and dance.



Cian Brennan
Head of Alternative InvestmentsCian is a Junior Sophister Economics student who currently serves as Head of Alternative Investments and Investment Officer for the 2021/22 session of the SMF. He has previously held analyst and Sector Manager roles in the Technology (Hardware) sector. In the past, Cian has interned at a distressed credit Hedge Fund and at a London ed-tech startup. He has a keen interest in real restate and technology. Outside of the SMF, Cian is General Manager of the 2022 Student Economic Review at Trinity.



Aaron Ryan
Head of PublicationsAaron is a 2nd year Management Science and Information Systems Studies (MSISS) student. He is the SMF Head of Publications, and is also involved in the Utilities sector. He previously worked as a Junior Analyst in the Energy Sector. He worked as a Business Operations intern for Interactive Brokers in 2021, overseeing client transfers and auditing account details. He has experience as an editor and writer from his time at Frontier Current Affairs, with a focus on financial news. in 2021 he participated in the CBS consulting case competition. Outside of the SMF, Aaron is interested in running, hiking and rugby. He plans on pursuing a career in consulting after college.
